Frontline Plus is effective medication to kill flea and ticks from dog, cat or kittens. Frontline Plus is the most popular brand from a segment of flea and tick medication. Flea and ticks are parasites which has ability carry dangerous disease such as Lyme disease, plaque etc. Which even causes death also? So to kill them using flea medication is the best method.

The active ingredients of Frontline Plus are Fipronil and S-Methoprene. This product is so powerful that a single application is effective for 30 days and within 24 hours all fleas are killed by them. You can use it for treatment or for prevention also. Now we will see in depth about Fipronil and S-Methoprene.

Fipronil:

Fipronil is a broad spectrum insecticide that belongs to the phenylpyrazole chemical family. This works on a cellular level of fleas by blocking chlorine ions through the GABA receptor and glutamate-gated chloride (GluCl) channels, to pass into the cell. This stops nervous system and paralyzes adult flea and ticks.
In Frontline Plus, Fipronil is mixed with a carrier which collects in the sebaceous (oil) glands of the skin. Because of this it gives waterproof protection against adult flea and ticks. But it does not prevent flea eggs and larvae from developing; for this purpose another ingredient S-Methoprene is used.

S-Methoprene:
S-Methoprene is another ingredient which acts as insect growth regulators or IGR. It does not work on adult flea but it affects the eggs and larvae of fleas. So it prevents eggs and larvae from growing further. The life cycle of fleas is completely distracted and prevention of recurring infestation is achieved.

Precaution:
Although Frontline Plus has no any side effects; it may create problems if ingested by pet, so take precaution during application. Some pets may have allergic reactions so keep watch after application. Always wash hands thoroughly after each application. Cat and dog have a separate dose requirement so doesn’t misuse it.
